About George Tremblay

My first inclination to write a book about my experiences as a motion picture projectionist started to surface in 1989. It was becoming increasingly apparent that there was a renewed and growing interest in the movies by the general public.

The baby boomers and the students were emerging as avid movie fans. But, to most people, what went on in a projection room was a complete mystery. I always found it fascinating to observe the amazement and interest shown by a first time visitor to a projection room.

The catalyst that finally propelled me to start writing was when I had the opportunity to participate in
reactivating the movie capabilities of one of those grand old movie palaces.. The Capitol Theater
of North Bay, Ontario.

When the job was completed the younger generation was able to experience the thrill of enjoying a blockbuster movie
on a big screen amid the opulent decor of a modernized movie palace. Most of the younger people had only experienced a movie in the austere confines of a mall cinema. A movie in the new Capitol Center was a entirely new and enjoyable experience for them.

It was too much for me to resist and I launched into my book so that a factual account of life as a projectionist in the old days as well as in modern times could left to posterity. I am not, by any means, implying that I am an expert on the subject. Far from it. I am merely relating actual experiences that I had in the booth through the years and I sincerely hope that you will be entertained.
